Fade is an extremely powerful initiator with the ability to disorient her opponents. All of her utility is designed to gain information for your team and set you up to take informed fights. Fade is a unique agent in Valorant because she can deploy so much utility to create havoc on any area of the map. When playing Fade, you should be very conscious of your teammates and look to use your abilities to give them entry opportunities.

Strengths

  • Fade can deploy an overwhelming amount of utility by offering her team information about the location of enemy players.
  • With proper lineups, Fade can completely expose the location of any player on a site which will oftentimes force them to retreat.
  • Fade’s abilities have a lot of disruptive visuals with them. This means on top of gaining information on your opponents, and they will also be thrown off by the HUD effects.

Weaknesses

  • Fade’s utility can easily be destroyed, so in order to be most effective, you should know multiple lineups and think carefully about timing your ability usage.
  • Since Fade has so much utility, inexperienced players can get themselves killed while using abilities if not careful.
  • Fade heavily relies on her teammates to take advantage of her kit. This means that if you’re not conscious of your team you may find little to no success with this agent.

Skill Breakdown

Ability 1 (C) – Prowler

Equip a Prowler. Fire will send the Prowler out, causing it to travel in a straight line. The Prowler will lock onto any enemies or trails in their frontal vision cone and chase them, near sighting them if it reaches them. Hold the fire button to steer the Prowler in the direction of your crosshair.

Ability 2 (Q) – Seize

Equip an orb of nightmare ink. Fire to throw the orb which will plummet to the ground after a set amount of time. Upon hitting the ground, the ink will explode and create a zone that prevents enemies from escaping and causes them to take 75 HP of decay damage that returns over time. Re-use the ability to drop the projectile early in-flight.

Signature Ability (E) – Haunt

Equip a nightmarish entity. Fire to throw the orb which will plummet to the floor after a set amount of time. Upon hitting the ground, the orb will reveal the location of enemies caught in its line of sight and place a trail following the enemies who were seen. Enemies can destroy this entity. Re-use the ability to drop the projectile early in the flight.

Ultimate Ability (X) – Nightfall

Equip the power of Fear. Fire sends out a wave of nightmare energy that can traverse through walls. The energy creates a trail to the opponent as well as deafens and decays them for 12 seconds.

Tips and Tricks

Tip #1 – Account for Nightfall

Fade’s ultimate Nightfall actually has a lot shorter range than most players give it credit for. This is why it’s important to pay attention to the mini-map when using this ability. You can see the first time the Fade player in the video uses this ability – it doesn’t reach the far corner of Pearl’s B Halls. This would allow an opponent in this location to run into the corner to avoid being affected. However, in the second clip Fade pays attention to the mini-map and completely shuts down any player who was on B Site. One of the best tips for this Fade ability is that you need to gain some control of the area it’s going to be used.

Tip #2 – Follow the Prowler

Fade’s Prowlers can be used very well in tandem with her teammates. Simply throw a prowler to enter an uncleared angle, and ask a teammate to follow it. This tip is very powerful because while you’re piloting the prowler, a teammate can be ready to kill any enemies that the ability latches on to. Another way to think about Prowlers on defense is that they can be used for information gathering. If you’re defending a site, consider playing a safe angle, and when you hear audio from opponents or want to see if anyone is lurking simply send out a prowler to scout the area.
