Caustic is a powerful defensive legend through and through. His noxious gas makes it difficult for enemies to overwhelm him, and his ultimate Nox Gas Grenade can be a powerful defensive and offensive tool when used correctly. Any player who enjoys bunkering down in a building, or claiming a specific spot on the map and playing the traditional rotational style of Apex Legends will enjoy the repelling power that Caustic brings to their team. Note that since Caustic is very immobile, he pairs nicely with legends that offer mobility such as Wraith, Valkyrie, and Octane.
Strengths
- Caustic excels at pushing enemies back and holding down a building. All of his abilities focus on deploying noxious gas that makes it difficult for all enemies to enter.
- His tactical ability Nox Gas Trap can be used to block doors, and, when placed correctly, can be very difficult to destroy.
Weaknesses
- In an aggressive team composition, Caustic doesn’t bring much to the table; as his abilities are much more helpful in defense scenarios.
- Caustic’s abilities struggle in wide-open areas of the map and only find use inside enclosed spaces.
Skill Breakdown
Class – Controller
Caustic is a Controller Class Legend. Controller Class legends can scan the Ring Console, which reveals the location of the next ring.
Passive Ability – Nox Vision
Caustic gains threat vision inside his noxious gas, which highlights enemies as they’re navigating through the gas.
Tactical Ability (Q) – Nox Gas Trap
Caustic places up to 6 canisters that release Nox gas when shot or triggered by enemies. Teammates are not affected by Nox gas. These traps can be destroyed by being shot at their base, which will not deploy any Nox gas. They can also be destroyed when activated. Traps have 150HP and Gas lingers for 2 seconds if they are destroyed while active.
Ultimate Ability (Z) – Nox Gas Grenade
Caustic throws a grenade which detonates upon contacting the ground and deploys a large cloud of Nox gas. This ultimate lasts for 15 seconds and covers much wider ground than Nox Gas Traps.
Tips and Tricks
Tip #1 – Your Gas, Your Terms
Shooting Caustic’s barrels is one of the most underused features of this legend. When you put down a barrel, it can be destroyed by opponents. To avoid them being destroyed, if you want to use a barrel on the fly to protect you from an enemy push or to block off an area, you can place the barrel down and shoot it instantly to begin deploying Noxious gas. While gas is shooting from the barrels, they cannot be destroyed, and this is a very useful piece of information to keep in mind.
Tip #2 – Locking the Doors
Caustic’s Nox Gas Trap barrels can be used to block off doors. This is a great way to keep a building fortified, and as an added bonus the doors can still be opened from the inside while the barrels cover your lower body and chest from being shot. When using this tip, remember to be conscious of teammates if they want to exit the building for any reason and especially when they need to get back inside.
