3 Best Champions to Main for Each Role in 13.13
While you may have already decided on a role to play in League of Legends, you may not be too sure about the best champions to main. We’ve put together a few suggestions, separately by role, to help give you some ideas that you can test out in your role of choice. Watch for more tips and guides as Patch 13.14 lands next week!
Top Lane
Starting with the top lane, the first champion we recommend is Gangplank. Gangplank, also known as the Saltwater Scourge, is a high-skill cap champion that requires a lot of practice to master. His unique playstyle revolves around his ability to place Powder Kegs that can be detonated to deal area damage and slow enemies. This mechanic, combined with his Parrrley ability, allows Gangplank to farm efficiently and poke opponents from a distance. His ultimate, Cannon Barrage, is a global ability that can affect other lanes, providing support during skirmishes or helping to secure objectives. Mastering Gangplank will not only allow you to dominate your lane but also have a significant impact on the overall game.
Next, we have Riven, the Exile. Riven is a champion that most people spend a lot of time mastering due to her high mastery curve. Her kit is hyper-mobile and packed with a combination of crowd control and burst damage, making her a top-tier Bruiser. Riven excels in short trades and all-ins, with her Broken Wings and Ki Burst providing excellent trading and all-in potential. Her Valor ability offers a shield and mobility, while her ultimate, Blade of the Exile, significantly increases her damage output and range. Riven can outplay any matchup in lane and is a formidable force in both split pushing and team fights.
Jungle
In the jungle, we have Maokai, the Twisted Treant. Maokai is a tank jungler known for his crowd control and durability. His kit is easy to use, with point-and-click CC from his Twisted Advance and tons of disruption in team fights with his ultimate, Nature’s Grasp. His saplings provide strong map control and can be used for vision, zoning, or dealing damage. Despite several nerfs, Maokai remains a strong pick due to his ability to initiate fights, soak damage, and provide utility for his team.
Zac, the Secret Weapon, is another great jungle option. Zac is a tank jungler who excels in initiating fights and disrupting the enemy team with his crowd control. His Elastic Slingshot allows him to gank from unexpected angles, making it hard for the enemy team to ward against him. Zac’s unique health mechanic, where he loses and can regain chunks of health, allows him to clear the jungle safely. His ultimate, Let’s Bounce, can disrupt the enemy team and reposition them, making him a significant threat in team fights.
Lastly, we have Fiddlesticks, the Ancient Fear. Fiddlesticks is a mage jungler known for his high AoE damage and fear crowd control. His gameplay is straightforward: clear camps with his AoE abilities, use his ultimate, Crowstorm, to gank when it’s available, and reset to clear again when it’s not. Fiddlesticks’ ultimate is a game-changer in team fights, dealing significant damage and causing chaos among the enemy team.
Mid Lane
In the mid lane, we have Vladimir, the Crimson Reaper. If scaling is your thing, then Vladimir is your champion. Vladimir’s laning phase is about playing safe and farming with his Transfusion ability. However, once the mid-game comes around and he has a few items, Vladimir can start to come online and potentially 1v9 any team fight. His Sanguine Pool allows him to dodge crucial abilities, and his Hemoplague can turn the tide of any team fight.
Akshan, the Rogue Sentinel, is another mid-lane champion worth considering. Akshan is a versatile champion who can deal significant damage, revive dead teammates, and even take objectives with his grappling hook and stealth mechanics. His playstyle revolves around poking and whittling down his opponents in lane, and his ultimate, Comeuppance, can finish off low-health enemies from a distance.
Bot Lane
In the bot lane, we have Twitch, the Plague Rat. Twitch is a hyper carry known for his stealth and high damage output. While many people think of Twitch as weak in the laning phase, he’s actually pretty strong early and can even be a deadly kill lane ADC with an aggressive support. His Ambush allows him to stealth and surprise enemies, and his Spray and Pray gives him increased attack damage and range, making him a significant threat in team fights.
Miss Fortune, the Bounty Hunter, is another bot lane pick. The item rework has brought us back to lethality Miss Fortune being meta. She is known for her high burst damage and her ultimate, Bullet Time, which can deal significant damage in a cone. Miss Fortune can dominate almost any lane and becomes a monster in the mid and late-game fights with a well-placed ultimate instantly melting the enemy team.
Support
In the support role, we have Rell, the Iron Maiden. Rell is a tank support known for her crowd control and durability. Her ability to engage and disrupt enemies with her Ferromancy and Attract and Repel makes her a significant threat in team fights. Despite several nerfs, Rell remains a strong pick due to her ability to initiate fights and provide utility for her team.
Soraka, the Starchild, is another great support. Soraka is a healing support known for her ability to sustain her team in fights. Her Starcall allows her to poke enemies and heal herself, while her Astral Infusion provides significant healing to her allies. Her Equinox can silence and root enemies, and her ultimate, Wish, can heal all her allies regardless of their location on the map.
Lastly, we have Alistar, the Minotaur. Alistar is a tank support known for his crowd control and durability. His Headbutt and Pulverize combo allows him to engage enemies and disrupt the enemy team. His ultimate, Unbreakable Will, makes him extremely durable and allows him to tank a lot of damage for his team.
